A VERY RARE IMPERIAL BUFFALO HORN-
INLAID AND PAINTED WOOD PANEL
QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD
the rectangular panel ornately inlaid with intricately carved
buffalo horn in various levels of relief, depicting a riverside
landscape with two figures crossing a bridge, above a further
figure steering a sampan boat in the river, set in a rocky
mountainous landscape with cottages and huts sheltered
amongst tall trees, accompanied with a jade-inlaid poetic
inscription followed by two Qianlong seals, all reserved against
a painted greenish-blue ground in the foreground simulating
the river, gradating to a rich blue tone towards the upper part
forming the sky, the wood frame set with an archaistic bronze
double-phoenix handle
