           A BLUE-GROUND YELLOW-ENAMELLED
           ‘DRAGON’ DISH
           MARK AND PERIOD OF KANGXI
           the interior richly enamelled in yellow with a central medallion
           enclosing a ferocious dragon reaching for a ‘flaming pearl’
           amidst flames and ruyi clouds, encircled by two dragons
           striding sinuously at the cavetto, the exterior similarly
           decorated with two dragons in pursuit of ‘flaming pearls’ above
           a band of upright lappets skirting the foot, all reserved against
           an underglaze-blue ground, the base inscribed with a six-
           character reign within a double circle

           A pair of dishes of this pattern is included in the lllustrated
           Catalogue of Tokyo National Museum: Chinese Ceramics,
           vol. II, Tokyo, 1990, cat. no. 579; and another is illustrated
           in Mayuyama, Seventy Years, vol. 1, Tokyo, 1976, pl. 1047.
           Compare also one from the M.G. Brooking collection sold in
           our London rooms 12th December 1978, lot 419, and another
           sold in these rooms, 11th April 2008, lot 2917.
