The Mahayana Bodhisattva Skanda




                                                                   The Dharma protector, also known as Weituo, is
                                                                   the devoted guardian of Buddhist monasteries who
                                                                   guards the teachings of Buddhism. The leader of the
                                                                   twenty-four celestial guardian deities mentioned in the
                                                                   Suvarnaprabhasa Sutra, or the Golden Light Sutra, he is
                                                                   sometimes called Hufa Weituo zuntian pusa (Honoured
                                                                   Dharma Protector Skanda Bodhisattva). In Chinese
                                                                   Sutras the image of Skanda is always found at the end
                                                                   of the Sutra as a reminder of Weituo’s vow to protect
                                                                   and preserve the Mahayana Buddhist teachings.




                                                                   韋馱護法像




                                                                   韋馱,梵文 Skanda,又稱護法韋馱尊天菩薩,位
                                                                   列四天王下將軍之首,據《金光明經》乃二十四諸

                                                                   天之一。傳統漢傳佛經卷末尾頁,多配鎧甲戎裝之
                                                                   韋馱護法像,保衛大乘佛教法典。
