Judge Edgar Bromberger (1889-1956) spent his life in service
of the city of New York, eventually serving as the City’s chief
magistrate from 1945 to 1950. Amassing a remarkable
collection of Chinese art, he opted to bequeath a number of
his most important pieces to the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
New York, including a large Yuan dynasty porcelain bodhisattva
(accession no. xxx), in memory of his late mother Augusta.
