A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN

QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The figure is shown seated with one leg crossed in front of the
other, exposing one bare foot, and with one hand holding a scroll
resting on an armrest, pingji. She is dressed in long, loose robes
incised with foliate decoration that fall in folds around the body.
The back of the robe is inscribed with the signature, Zixiu.
3 ‰ in. (10 cm.) high, wood stand, box

HK$200,000-300,000  US$26,000-39,000

Compare to a soapstone figure of seated Luohan of comparable style,
height and also bearing the signature of Zixiu, sold at Sotheby’s Hong
Kong, 30 October 2000, lot 261.
