powerfully painted in vivid shades of cobalt blue, the domed 趙從衍(1912-1999年)收藏,此後家族傳承
cover painted with a pair of confronting five-clawed dragons
writhing amongst flames and cloud scrolls contesting a flaming
pearl, the rounded sides of both the box and cover similarly
decorated with further dragons striding amongst clouds,
encircled at the rims with chevron bands, the base inscribed
with a six-character reign mark, wood stand
21.6 cm, 8½ in.

The form of the present box, modelled after ingots, is highly 銀錠之形,嘉靖首創,萬曆延製,但傳世例器甚罕。相類
unusual. The production of wares of this shape began in the 蓋盒,巴黎吉美國立亞洲藝術博物館有藏,見 Daisy Lion-
Jiajing period (1522-1566) and continued in the Wanli reign
Goldschmidt,《Ming Porcelain》,弗里堡, 1978年,
(1573-1620), but extant examples are relatively rare.
