The square-section body flanked with an
s-shaped spout and loop handle moulded
naturalistically as bamboo sections, the
domed lid with applied moulded bamboo
stemming from a square knop, one side with
a five-line inscription, signed and with two
impressed seals. 23cm (9in) wide across the

AN YIXING ENAMELLED JAR
19th century
The brown body brightly enamelled in tones
of lime green, white, puce and turquoise with
several registers of decoration, including
a central band of white-outlined, shaped
medallions enclosing alternately floral designs
and poems on a bright blue ground, with
robin’s egg bands above and below.
