917 A GILT-DECORATED CORAL-
GROUND BOWL
JIAQING SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN IRON RED AND OF THE
PERIOD (1796-1820)
The bowl is decorated in gilt on the exterior with four medallions
enclosing the individual characters wan shou wu jiang (myriad ages
without end), separated by bats and a dense ground of foliate scrolls
with shou flowerheads and endless knot motifs, all reserved on a
coral-red ground. The interior is painted in iron red with a shou
medallion encircled by five bats (wufu).

The teapot is formed as a pomegranate resting on a star-shaped foot
simulating the calyx, with the straight spout opposite a branch- 年ջ至 年ջ初

form handle. The body is molded with leafy sprigs and the cover is 藍理捷
紐約
further molded with a leafy spray and surmounted by a twig-loop
finial. Both are covered on the exterior with a transparent glaze and
are fitted with 18th-century Continental silver mounts.
