Figural netsuke are rare by this artist, and probably earlier works,

Gyokuhosai Ryuchin was regarded by Meinertzhagen as one of the
most brilliant netsuke carvers of his time. His designs were original
and often displayed his superior use of sukashi-bori (openwork
technique).
