A THREE-COLOR OVERLAY BUBBLE-SUFFUSED 'CHILONG'
BOTTLE
Attributed to the Palace workshops, Beijing, 1750-1800
Of large rounded globular shape and carved through overlays of
transparent ruby-red and green to alternate sides, each depicting two
coiling, ascending and descending chilong, one holding a lingzhi spray,
the underside with a transparent blue single smaller chilong forming
the foot, the clear ground with small white inclusions and air-bubbles
forming the backdrop, the cylindrical neck with some yellow-beige
swirling inclusions and a medium mouth opening.

Mack Collection, Arizona, 2000, p. 48, no. 32, that is attributed to the
Beijing Palace workshops and where the author discusses related
multi-color overlay glass 'dragon' bottles.
Another larger example also carved with green, red and a blue chilong,
and with the addition of yellow, is illustrated by Robert Hall, Serendipity,
Chinese Snuff Bottles XVI, London, undated, no. 83 and attributed to
the Beijing Palace glass workshops.
