A YING SCHOLAR’S ROCK
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The tall, slender rock in the form of a mountain precipice, rises from
its small narrow base to a dramatic overhanging peak. It is interrupted
at the midpoint with a slight protrusion resembling a smaller
mountain cliff. The rock is further textured from front to back with
deep pits, furrows and jagged ridges that enliven the uneven surface.
The stone is of a dark grey tone with some inclusions of white calcite.
