Ming dynasty 17th/18th century
Raised on a circular foot supporting a compressed globular body Formed as a luduan, the mythical beast with single horn, open jaw
decorated with a dense keyfret band over a floral collar under five leaf- and tightly curled mane hinged to a burly body and powerful haunches
form volutes extending from two abstract bands of taotie and whorl elegantly cast with a ruyi-headed harness setting off his flame-form tail,
patterns flanked by paired serpent-headed s-curved handles. the surface bearing traces of blue and red pigment.
