Kan’u standing in a dignified attitude, holding his halberd with one (handscroll) with the other, his loose coat and trousers delicately
hand and his beard with the other, unsigned, 7.3cm (2 7/8in) high; engraved with dragons and scrolls, the ivory somewhat worn and

The style of carving is one that has been attributed by Alain Ducros to
carvers from Satsuma in Kyushu, see ‘Satsuma Ivory Netsuke’ in The
