WITH AN IVORY NETSUKE
The inro by Jokasai, Edo period (1615-1868),
19th century
Of upright form, lacquered on the kinji ground
with a large peacock standing on an ancient
cherry tree and displaying its tail which
continues on the reverse, in takamaki-e with
highlights of inlaid shell, signed Joka with a
red-lacquer pot-shaped seal; with an ivory
netsuke of a tiger and cub, carved in the
manner of Unsho Hakuryu, unsigned; and a
lacquered globular ojime with mother-of-pearl
inlaid flowers.
The inro: 8.9cm (3½in) high.
