A PIECED SILK BROCADE KANG PLATFORM COVER A PAIR OF MASSIVE EMBROIDERED THEATRICAL HANGINGS
The brocade fabrics 18th and 19th century Late Qing dynasty
The padded platform cover fronted with a brown silk panel woven in Each hanging a mirror image elaborately composed in couched gilt
teal blue with a pattern of large composite flower roundels and leaf and vegetable dye threads to depict three closely huddled martial
scrolls interspersed with smaller auspicious plants and flowers within figures, likely the three Peach Garden heroes Liu Bei, Zhang Fei,
a border of teal blue brocade strips woven with crane roundels and and Guan Yu, each attired in extremely elaborate armor formed in a
flying bats; the reverse finished with a piece of taupe raw silk. raucous profusion of repeating patterns, floral motifs, animal heads,
69 1/2 x 35in (177 x 89cm) and smaller depictions of religious and legendary figures; reversed by
a blue wool or coarse silk backing.
