DEER’ PEKING-KNOT SILK PANEL
19th century
The turquoise silk ground embroidered
in Peking knot with shades of blue, pink
and pale orange, with two confronting
phoenix amidst a profusion of peonies,
chrysanthemums, lingzhi, butterflies, gourds,
double swastikas and coral, a deer, and
further auspicious symbols and fruits, all
outlined in gilt thread, the embroidery framed
by a floral ‘san-lan’ border edge, framed and
glazed.

branches of a blossoming and fruiting
pomegranate tree above blue shaded
rockwork and flowering plants on riverbanks;
the second with peonies, linghzi and
overhanging fruiting plants amongst pierced
rockwork, the larger framed and glazed.
