and a poem to the other; the second with a landscape and a four-
character archaistic inscription; the third, carved in reticulation with
an auspicious inscription on either side, flanked by scrolling motifs.

Qing Dynasty
The pale even stone carved in shallow relief with a gentleman
meeting a lady, chaperoned by a boy attendant, in a fenced terrace,
the reverse with a calligraphic inscription, all below a frieze of
mythical beasts and waves. 6cm (2 3/8in) high

A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE ‘MELON VINE’ CARVING
18th/19th century
Finely carved in openwork with a trailing melon vine bearing five fruits
amidst leafy tendrils, the reverse with trailing leaves, the flattened
surfaces smoothly polished and with russet skin, a butterfly alighting
to one side.
6.2cm (2.5/8in) long.
