The Songde Tang collection was formed from the 1960s to 1990s by a passionate connoisseur of
                        Chinese art, Lai Tak.

Born in the 1920s in China, Mr. Lai later moved to Hong Kong where he set up an antique business
in the 1950s. In the following decades he travelled tirelessly to acquire fine objects for his clients as
well as his personal collection. Mr. Lai’s taste for classical art and his personal aesthetic were very
much influenced by his international experience, particularly in England and Japan.

The friendships he developed with fellow dealers and collectors during his 60 year career provided
him with the most satisfaction and gratification. He was honoured to have been able to make
contributions to museum collections in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Mr. Lai is remembered by
friends and family by his motto ‘antiques are the essence and the nourishment of my life’.

This marks the second of a series of sales from the Songde Tang collection to be sold at Christie’s
Hong Kong, ‘The Songde Tang Collection of Chinese Modern Paintings’, was sold on 28 May 2010.
