          It is rare to find any tray of this boat form, probably created at
          workshops in Guangzhou and sent as tribute to the Imperial
          court, and it is even rarer to find a pair of such quality. An
          individual example of similar size, also bearing a four-character
          Qianlong mark within a double square, was included by
          Michael Gillingham in the exhibition Chinese Painted Enamels,
          Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1978, cat. no. 73. See also
          another pair, enamelled on a blue ground, sold at Sotheby’s
          Olympia, 16th November 2001, lot 337.                              Marks
