VASE
QING DYNASTY
of fanggu-form, the bulbous central section
carved with taotie masks, upright cicada blades
accentuating the ared neck, the lower section
of the vase enveloped in turbulent waves carved
in high relief, a scaly dragon emerging from the
watery depths in pursuit of a ‘ aming pearl’
suspended in the creature’s ascending breath,
the milky-white stone with bu mottling and dark
brown markings, wood stand (2)
