The scene painted on the present lot is from Act II of the Romance The two dishes depict the real historical figures of Guan Yu 關羽
of the Western Chamber, ‘The Alert at the Monastery’. The young (died AD219) and Zhang Fei 張飛 (died AD221) who were glorified in
