the Buddha standing with serene expression, aquiline
nose and almond-shaped eyes, with wave-pattern hair
and high ushnisha, the earlobes extended, wearing a
sanghati wrapped around across the right shoulder with
graceful u-shaped pleats falling to the waist

the panel with upper border in chevron pattern, with
two Corinthian columns adorned with images of seated
Buddha, with multiple attendant gures in draped
sanghatis, some with turbans and elaborate hairstyles,
the Buddha seated at center right on a low rectangular
platform, with left hand in the lap and right hand raised in
abhaya mudra

GRASPING A TREE
ANCIENT REGION OF GANDHARA,
KUSHAN PERIOD, 2ND / 3RD CENTURY
the yakshi standing on a rectangular plinth in elegant
tribhanga, wearing disk-shaped earrings, a large amulet
around her neck, and heavy bracelets and anklets, with
an incised dhoti wrapped around the waist, the right arm
raised and grapsing a tree branch, the left hand raised to
her face holding a mirror
