NOTE:

Xu Beihong became acquainted with Han Huaizhun
(1892-1970), when Xu was staying in Singapore. The
artist created many exceptional paintings dedicated to Han,
including the present one.

Huang Yanghui (1911-2001) was a noted artist,
calligrapher, art educator and seal carver. He worked as Xu
Beihong’s secretary for over twenty years and apprenticed
under him. An artist in his own right, Huang later served as
a professor at Nanjing University, an advisor to the Jiangsu
Chinese Painting Institute, in addition to other important
positions within the Chinese art world.
