Trail Sign, weather patterns, ani-
mal sign, plants move-
ment….there are a lot of things
you can learn from hiking and
backpacking.
What I did not know yet was how
to read the River.
I had reservoir experience and
one or two rivers, but nothing to
qualify as skill set yet, merely a
singular experience.
What I could see ahead of me
didn’t look like it would be too
much a problem as a Rock Gar-
den because both kayaks would
bounce off them.
BUT I WAS TOWING ONE….
Knowing I had rocks ahead, pretty sure they were large
since I was seeing them far off , pretty confident now that
I had repacked the kayaks, I pulled over to think about it.
Ok, yes it was lunch time and I was hungry so I stopped
and ate. Never hurts to take your time and fuel up. Besides
I had been dodging sweepers and prodders along the
banks already for some time…..but this was rocks and my
motto for rocks were. See Rock, Hit Rock, OOOPS!
