Always communicate with service user
Always make a visual check of any lifting equipment before use
Make sure you have the right size sling
Flatten the bed as much as service user will tolerate
Place a pillow under service user’s head
Roll the service user onto their side
Fold sling in half, label inside
Measure against spine, and place along service user’s spine lengthways –checking for size
Bring top half over service user
