ASSISTING A PERSON BACK IN A CHAIR DEMONSTRATION
WITH ASSISTANCE FROM A CARER

Carer to kneel in front of the service user
Follow as above but as service user lifts their hip
Carer places the palm of their hand on the raised hip
Rest the other hand below the knee of the service user and gently push back
STAND TO SIT, CHAIR OR BED
SIT TO STAND FROM CHAIR STEPS

Make sure brakes are applied if sitting to a wheeled chair
May be helpful to come in from the side if service user tends to sit down before they have turned around
Advise service user to walk backwards until they feel the chair or bed on the backs of their legs
Service user to let go of their walking aid if using one
