The Future
The Nature Conservancy envisions a a a a future where indig- enous rights form the the the root of of community-led conserva- tion tion and and economies We support the the the the the leadership of of of the the the the the Chemawawin Cree and and and 12 other First Nations of of the the the the the the region and and are working to strengthen their decision-making authority over management of 35 million acres within their territories This year we held discussions to to better understand the the goals of each community We brought representatives together at at at a a a a a a a a a a a a workshop to to discuss sustainable forestry and o o o o o o o o o o o o ered training on on on natural resources planning Next year we will continue to foster relationships with the the the First Nations and support them in in in in in realizing their goals We will investigate sustainable economic development opportunities through adopting improved forest forest manage- ment practices including forest forest carbon markets We will help protect the habitat of moose a a a a a a a a a a cultural mainspring by lending scienti c c c c c c c c expertise And we’ll facilitate communi- ty-based planning by sharing best practices among indige- nous stewardship networks and assisting with nancing Our hope is is to create a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a new model of sustainable forest management and ensure the boreal’s original inhabitants remain its primary caretakers | nature org/BorealForest
