One of the most beautifully complex words in the Bible is “HOLY.” In the lan-
guage of the Bible, Holy can mean a myriad of different things depending on the
context on which you use it. It can mean, set apart, consecrated, to be be-
trothed, sacred, sanctified, dedicated and devoted. It can be used to describe an
ultimate level of purity, both physical or spiritual. It describes perfection. In
short, it is the one word we have that accurately describes who God is. He is
Holy, Perfect, without flaw, unsullied and untainted by Sin. God is above all
rules, and limitations, He is the only being who has the right to judge anyone
because He is pure. His purity is so perfect that every time He has made his
physical form seen by human eyes, it appears to us as the brightest light, and
the purest of white. His holiness is so pure that anything impure gets eradicate
it its presence. There is no equal to God’s Holiness.

What is fantastic about this word is that after Jesus rose again, that holiness is a
gift to us who believe. Not because we had earned it, but because we could nev-
er achieve it. It is a gift. However, sometimes we tend to use that word in Chris-
tian circles to mean that we need to keep away from anything or anyone that is
not part of that holiness or “As long as we are with other Christians, then we’ll
be alright and don’t have to fear to become tainted by unholiness.” God did not
want us to live separated from those who have not accepted the gift of holiness.
He wants us to become beacons of that holiness, Lanterns amid the fog of con-
fusion in the world — a way for people to see that they too can receive the light
of His Holiness.

To do this, He wants us to be part of the world, which means that some of us
are going to be called to go into the darkest areas of the world to bring the light,
This does not mean just giving out a testimony or merely inviting people to
church. It means that all of our lives have to be Holy. How we treat our family,
neighbors, and the disenfranchised and how we live, our everyday life has to
shine with the light of God’s holiness. It cannot only come out when we gather
as believers on Sunday! Holiness is the very evidence that the Holy Spirit dwells
in and empowers us, because if we have holiness, as the scriptures say, then
every facet of our lives will display that holiness. It can’t hide, and it can’t be
kept separate. We are to be involved in all matters of this world and bring the
light of Holiness wherever we go.
