Ukraine doubled poultry exports to China since 2015. A Chinese poultry inspection team is expected to tour Ukraine’s poultry farms shortly. Rabobank estimates China lost half of its pig herd over the past year to African swine fever. Yuriy Kosyuk, MHP CEO, tells Bloomberg: “They will start to consume more and more chicken.”
Ukraine is the fastest-growing food exporter to the EU, recording a 34% jump in the 12 months that ended in July, according to a new report by the European Commission. Ukraine has displaced China to now rank third as a source of food for Europe. For the one-year period, the top exporters were: United States -- €12.5bn; Brazil -- €11.7bn; Ukraine -- €6.7bn; and China -- €6bn.
Since the July 1 start of the grain marketing year, Ukraine has exported 10 million tons of grain – 47% more than in the same period last year. Ukraine has exported 6.1 million tons of wheat, 2.2 million tons of barley, and 1.7 million tons of corn, according to the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. In addition, 1.8 million tons of oilseeds have been exported – 50% more than this time last year. After good weather in June and July, the U.S. Department of Agriculture raised its forecast for Ukraine’s grain exports to 54 million tons – 8% more than last year.
Through July, Ukraine’s food exports of Ukrainian to the EU were up by 34%, to $4.1bn,reports Olha Trofimtseva, the former acting Agricultural Policy and Food minister. Last year Ukraine exported $6.3bn in food to the EU, up 9% over 2017.
Ukraine’s revenue from electricity exports hit $240mn through August up 12.4% compared to the first eight months of 2018. The top buyers were: Hungary - $147mn; Poland - $54mn; and Moldova - $30mn.
