MOL, JBIC, NOVATEK team
up on LNG transshipment
projects
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Japan Bank
for International Cooperation (JBIC) and NOVATEK signed a cooperation agreement on September 26 for LNG transshipment projects in Kamchatka and Murmansk, the east and west of the Russian Federation.
The projects will construct floating storage units (FSUs) to transship LNG cargoes from ice-breaking LNG ships to conventional LNG ships. The FSUs will be located in Kamchatka and in Murmansk and will be used for the transshipment of LNG cargoes produced by NOVATEK’s Yamal LNG Project and Arctic LNG 2 Project. By utilizing transshipment hubs in Kamchatka and Murmansk, marine transportation costs of LNG cargoes coming through the Northern Sea Route will be optimised. Furthermore, the Projects enable timely and stable delivery of LNG cargoes to LNG consumer countries.

MOL delivers new LNG carrier to Mitsui
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) today announced the delivery of the LNG carrier Marvel Heron. Before the delivery, on August 30, Mitsubishi
Shipbuilding (MHIMSB) held a naming ceremony at the Nagasaki Shipyard Koyagi Plant
of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. As a crowd of VIPs and well-wishers looked on, the vessel was named the Marvel Heron by Mitsui & Co. Executive Managing Officer Yoshio Kometani.
The Marvel Heron is the second of the three newbuilding LNG carriers, that will sail under charter contracts signed with Mitsui & Co. in September 2014 and January 2015. The vessels will mainly transport LNG from the Mitsui & Co.-backed Cameron LNG project in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
The MARVEL HERON adopts the hybrid dual-shaft Steam Turbine and Gas Engine (STaGE) propulsion system. This is an environment-friendly, economically superior design, which achieves further reduction in fuel costs while minimizing CO2 emissions.
Leveraging MOL’s accumulated experience and knowledge as one of the world’s leading LNG carrier owners and management companies, MOL continues to fully meet customer needs in LNG procurement, offering a safe, high-quality and efficient LNG transport service.

APLNG continues strong
support of domestic gas
market
Australia Pacific LNG will supply an additional 61 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas to the Australian domestic market after reaching a new gas sales agreement with Origin Energy for 2020 and 2021.
Australia Pacific LNG Chief Executive Officer Warwick King said this additional gas forms part of the company’s ongoing commitment to make more gas available domestically.
Australia Pacific LNG is the largest producer of natural gas on Australia’s east coast, with a
number of gas production facilities in southern Queensland.
“By reaching an agreement with a retailer, more natural gas produced by Australia
Pacific LNG is able to reach end-users outside Queensland,” King said. “In 2018, APLNG supplied on average over 600 terajoules per day into the domestic market – more than the entire average daily gas demand of Queensland. This new contract will work to ensure substantial and industry leading levels of supply through 2021,” he said.
This new contract increases Australia Pacific LNG’s total domestic contracted supply commitment to over 340 PJ for 2020 and 2021, representing more than 30 per cent of total east coast domestic demand for each year.

APPEA: Gas exports
continue to underpin
Australia’s growth
The Resources and Energy Quarterly September 2019 released today underlines the vital and ongoing role natural gas plays in delivering significant economic benefits for Australia while helping to reduce global emissions.
According to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, the value of Australia’s resources and energy exports reached a record $279 billion in 2018-19 largely due to growing liquefied natural gas exports.
In 2018-19, Australia’s LNG export earnings are estimated at $50 billion, an increase of 61 per cent over the previous year, which was the largest increase of any commodity.
APPEA Chief Executive Andrew McConville said the data highlighted the significance of LNG exports for sustaining Australia’s economic growth, maintaining living standards and lowering global carbon emissions.
According to the latest Federal Government estimates, Australian LNG exports have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 152 million tonnes in customer nations,
a contribution equivalent to 28 per cent of Australia’s annual emissions.
