4.1   Industrial production
Ukrainian industrial output grew 1.4% y/y in October after sliding 1.3% in September  . Over 10m18, it was up 1.8% y/y.
Mining and quarrying was the main driver, growth accelerating to 5.2% y/y in October from just 0.7% y/y in September due to the low base effect (it dropped 8.1% y/y in October 2017). Over 10m18, it grew 2.3%. The highest growth in the segment came from crude oil extraction (up 20.2% y/y) and coal production (up 15.4% y/y).
Manufacturing output (up 1% y/y) was the second main driver in October, following a 1.6% y/y contraction in September. Over 10m18, it expanded 1.6%. Pharmaceutical output saw the highest growth in the manufacturing segment (up 12.1% y/y in October). Coke and oil products production rose 5.4% y/y, while output of plastic and rubber products increased 5%. Most other subsegments registered production declines.
Electricity, gas and heat output fell 3.6% y/y in October, after declining 3.9% y/y the previous month. However, over 10m18 this segment was up 1.9% y/y.
