The number of Ukrainians living and working in German is rising by 10%
every year. Currently there are some 138,000 Ukrainian citizens living in Germany today.
The most popular emigration destination is Poland where there are an estimated 900,000 migrants from Ukraine resident at the end of 2017. Other estimates put the total Ukrainian population in Poland at 2mn.
However, the emigration to Poland from Ukraine has probably reached its peak. The Poles have introduced new rules that make it harder to get work permits from next year so the flow of migrant workers is expected to slow.
Currently 4.4mn Ukrainians live in Russia , according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but about one million of those are official refugees from the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In addition there are 1.2mn in Canada, 940,000 in the US, 500,000 in Brazil and 230,000 in Germany, according to the ministry.
The State Statistics Service of Ukraine says the number of deaths in Ukraine as of late September 2018 exceeds the number of births almost twice. In particular, the rate is 100 deaths per 59 newborns, the service said in its update on November 11, 2018. The population of Ukraine shrank by 165,600 people in January-September 2018, to 42.2mn people as of October 1.
Women constitute 67% of the economically active, able-bodied population of Ukraine , Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has said. "Women constitute 55% of the population of Ukraine, moreover, 67% of the able-bodied, economically active population of Ukraine are women. At the same time, 60% of them have higher education. This means that we can realize the potential growth of business and raise Ukraine's GDP by attracting such a work resource," she said, speaking at the annual meeting of representatives of the European Business Association (EBA).
