4.5.1 Labour market, unemployment dynamics
Russia’s unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in January from 5.9% a month earlier – beating negative seasonal trends.
The situation on the labour market remains uncertain. The decline in the headline unemployment rate to 5.8% in January reflects a reduction in the labour force, not the number of the employed. The latter declined by 0.1mn in January to 70.7mn, close to the 2020 average of 70.6mn and much lower than 2019's 71.9mn.
