Rosneft expands petchem offering at Spimex
Russia’s Rosneft has expanded the range
of petrochemical products it sells at the Saint Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX). On September 4, 2019, the company started selling SKEPT 50 and SKEPT 40 ethylene-propylene-diene rubber manufactured by PJSC Ufaorgsintez on the platform.
Rosneft is actively involved in trading at SPIMEX. In addition to synthetic rubber, the Company regularly trades petrochemical products such as C2 and P1 petroleum solvents (nefras), orthoxylene, and industrial sulphur produced by the group entities.
Petrochemical assets are an important part of Rosneft’s production complex. High quality of products and consistent improvement of the production process allow the company to successfully compete with Russian and foreign producers in the Russian market.
Development of the petrochemical business is one of Rosneft’s strategic tasks. Integrated implementation of advanced management approaches, new technologies, and increased returns on existing assets
will help Rosneft to promote profitability of this business segment to the level of leading competitors.
Rosneft’s development strategy also provides for a significant increase in the level of Rosneft’s petrochemical assets integration with its refineries, optimisation of process utilisations, and expansion of the final product basket.

Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery increases efficiency in crude oil distillation
Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery has embarked on a project to modernise its AVT-10 crude distillation unit (CDU) — an initiative which will see the complex expand its range of light oil products by 5%, increasing production of aviation kerosene and diesel fuels. Expected to run to the end of 2021, this modernisation project will involve a total investment of RUB5 billion. The technological retooling of the CDU forms part of the modernisation programme at the Omsk Refinery being undertaken by Gazprom Neft since 2008.
The modernisation of the 8.6-million- tonne annual-capacity AVT-10 CDU will involve replacing equipment at all of the plant’s 11 distillation columns, optimising heat-exchange processes and integrating modern process-management and control systems, as a result of which — in addition to greater efficiency — environmental friendliness in production will also be improved.

Poland and Lithuania say
Nord Stream 2 is energy
security threat in CEE region
Poland and Lithuania perceive the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project to link Russia with Germany as a threat to the energy security of countries in the CEE region, Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on September 17.
Warsaw and Vilnius oppose Nord Stream 2, which the two former Russia satellites say Moscow is likely to use as a geopolitical tool against the region, Ukraine in particular. The bulk of Russian gas exports to Western Europe currently pass through Ukraine. Nord Stream 2 will allow the pumping of gas directly from Russia to Germany.
“Poland and Lithuania have a very similar
stance saying that the construction of Nord Stream 2 is s threat to energy security in this part of Europe,” Morawiecki told a press conference while on a visit to neighbouring Lithuania.
Poland recently scored a victory in its quest against Nord Stream 2, after the EU Court of Justice (ECJ) undermined a 2016 decision by the European Commission granting Russia’s Gazprom expanded use of the German Opal pipeline .
The politically charged ruling could restrict Gazprom’s sales in Europe, which have already seen a slump this year, and also weaken the economics of Nord Stream 2.

Naftogaz secures winter supplies
Ukraine’s Naftogaz has agreed to buy around 450mn cubic metres of gas for firm delivery in the first quarter of 2020 from an unnamed international trader, it said on September 17.
“Thanks to the sophisticated European gas market, and despite the risk of interruption of Russian gas transit in winter, we have today contracted the necessary amount of
gas for physical delivery in the first quarter
of next year,” the national gas company said. “We have fully prepared ourselves for the heating season, injected additional amounts of gas into storage, made the system operable without transit and contracted physical deliveries regardless of what Gazprom may do. This gives us confidence that winter in Ukraine will be warm, whatever our northern colleagues do.”
Naftogaz is looking at other offers from European traders for gas deliveries in the new year as well, it said.
