4.4 Labour and income
4.4.1 Labour market, unemployment dynamics
Turkey's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate hit the highest level ever officially recorded, statistical data showed on August 15. The record high was broken despite a slight fall in the April-June headline figures. The seasonally adjusted rate climbed to 14.0%, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) figures. Joblessness was aggravated by Turkey's slide into recession following the Turkish lira crisis of last summer. The TUIK unemployment data series reaches back to 2005. Year-on-year, unemployment officially grew 3.1 percentage points in the April-June period.
