Oil the is focused on short term scal bene ts, ignoring the long-term e ects of environmental degradation.”
He said, “Since 2017,sabotage spill rate has risen steeply and crude oil the from SPDC JV’s pipeline network averaged 11, 000 barrels per day in 2018, an increase of about 20% over previous year. e number of sabotage-related spills increased in 2018 to 111 compared to 62 in 2017 and, since 2012, SPDC has removed more than 1,160 illegal the points.”

Over the last seven years, SPDC has replacedapproximately 1,300 kilometres distance of ow lines and pipelines.”
She said, “In line with industry regulations, SPDC only pays compensation if the spill is operational. ”Towards the UNEP Report- guided Ogoni Clean Up, Weli said, “SPDC actively supports the clean-up process along with other stakeholders. SPDC remains fully committed to providing its share of US$900 million (N283.73 billion) over ve years to the Ogoni Trust Fund as stipulated in the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HyPREP) gazette and the agreed governance framework.”
“ e SPDC JV has completed its rst-year contribution of US$180 million (N54.54
billion). Early 2017, the SPDC JV made available US$10 million to help set up HyPREP o ce and in July 2018, joint venture deposited additional US$170 million (N51.52 billion) into an escrow account to fund HyPREP’s activities.”

Senegal
 e African Energy Chamber rejects
the accusations made by the recent BBC Panorama program on Senegal and believes this case is about a sinister rush to judgment, an obsession to taint a reform-driven President and the oil industry at any cost and by any means, and certainly without an understanding of the facts and how the oil industry works.
It is important that in this rush to judgment, truth and an understanding of the oil industry should be the number one priority rather than overlooking and manufacturing evidence.
As per the Senegalese Petroleum Code, BP’s acquisition of the blocks is well in line with the current tendering processes applied in Senegal. Prior to its acquisition of the Cayar Profond and St Louis Profond o shore concessions, BP conducted extensive and appropriate due diligences to ascertain the ownership and operation of the block. is was the same with Kosmos Energy.
Taking into consideration BP and Kosmos Energy’s strong compliance practices and adherence to the U.S Foreign Corrupt
