MediaMarkt is to add nine more stores to its network to have a total of 80 stores at the end of the year, according to the company executive. The consumer electronics company has opened 24 new stores over the past two years in Turkey and operates a total of 71 stores with 200,000 square meters of sales space, Gokyildirim said. MediaMarkt’s online sales increased by 35% last year compared to 2017, he also said. He did not provide company guidance for 2019 but said that MediaMarkt’s growth would be double that of its industry. As far as possible acquisitions go, Gokyildirim said that the decisions in this area would be made by Ceconomy, MediaMarkt’s parent company. The German company last year suspended talks with local conglomerate Sabanci Holding to buy shares in the latter’s consumer electronics unit Teknosa.

TUIK’s latest data release on agriculture producer price inflation (PPI) show a March rise in official agriculture PPI . That means the PPI figure went up for five straight months. The March gain was clocked at 27.33% y/y, compared to 25.79% y/y in February. Last November, the figure was recorded at 14.37% y/y.
TUIK’s latest data on poultry and milk products, released on April 12, showed the deterioration also continued in food production .
Number of mobile subscribers in Turkey rose 3% y/y to 80.1mn at end-2018 ,   according to the latest data from the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) .  Turkey has a population of 82mn people and mobile penetration stands at 99%. Number of 4.5G subscribers passed 71mn. However, only 40.2mn subscibers have required mobile phones to use 4.5G. 4.5G services have become online in April 2016. 4.5G is actually 4G but the BTK named it 4.5G after Erdogan called to wait to directly upgrade the 3G infrastructure to 5G. Total investments by mobile operators rose by 15% y/y to TRY9.4bn.
E-commerce market in Turkey last year grew 42% to 59.9bn lira: study.
The e-commerce market in Turkey last year grew 42% to a value of Turkish lira (TRY) 59.9bn ($10.1bn) compared to average growth in the last four years of 33%, according to a report prepared by the Data-Processing Industrialists' Association (TUBISAD) in conjunction with the Association of e-Commerce Operators (ETID), Deloitte Turkey, SimilarWeb and Inveon. The e-commerce’s share in Turkey’s overall retail market stood at 5.3% last year versus 5.9% in average across developed countries and 11.1% across emerging markets. TRY22.9bn, or 54%, of total e-commerce market belonged to holiday travel category last year while TRY20.8bn was online retail transactions, TRY10.7bn was multichannel online retail, TRY5.5bn was online betting. Deloitte Turkey director Alper Gunaydın was cited as pointing out that the major shopping sites in 2018 evidenced high performance and that the market share of the top 10 major shopping sites continued to increase.
