2.13 Russian business and consumer confidence
The consumer confidence index, calculated by Rosstat based on a survey of more than 5,000 people and including five sub-indices, increased by 8 points in the third quarter compared to the second rising from -30 to -22.
"Such a rapid growth of the indicator was observed only in 2014 and at the beginning of 2015," the statistics department notes. The greatest optimism was demonstrated by representatives of the middle age group from 30 to 49 years old (the indicator increased by 10%) and young people from 15 to 29 years old (7%).
However, in general, the growth of the consumer confidence index is associated not with an increase in the number of optimistic citizens, but with a decrease in the number of pessimists and an increase in the number of those who assess the future as neutral.
The share of respondents who assess positively the changes in the Russian economy over the next 12 months decreased from 18% in the second quarter to 15% in the third. The share of negative assessments decreased to 36%
