1.0 Executive summary
Turkish state in action: A 20-year-old woman in the Izmir office of Turkey's main pro-Kurdish party HDP was shot dead on June 17 by a man who stormed the premises shortly before he attempted to set it on fire. Mafioso Sedat Peker scandal is growing. Turkey's trade minister, Mehmet Mus, announced on June 16 that customs officers have made the largest seizure of cocaine, 1 tonne, in Turkish history.
The “West” behind Recep Tayyip Erdogan: Erdogan is subcontracting the Afghanistan mission from the US. Germany is moving ahead with submarine sales to Turkey. Turkish constitutional court on June 21 accepted the indictment to close the main pro-Kurdish party HDP. Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, a Turkish “businessman”, was on June 19 arrested by police in Austria at the request of the US.
“Regarding [new coronavirus] cases, we don’t believe the numbers are correct. Probably we should multiply the official rate by three,” Vedat Bulut, secretary-general of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) executive committee, said on June 1. Foreign tourists are coming.
Only 6% of Turks believe the official inflation data.
The banking watchdog BDDK extended its regulatory forbearance measures
