All but three Moldova- based airlines banned from operating in the EU
Uzbekistan and World Bank sign agreements worth $300mn on urban infrastructure
The European Commission said on April 16 it has included all the air carriers from Moldova, with the exception of Air Moldova, Fly One and Aerotranscargo, on the list of carriers banned from operating in the EU.
The airlines have been included in the EU Air Safety List, the list of airlines that do not meet international safety standards, due to a lack of safety oversight by the civil aviation authority of Moldova.
In another change in the latest EU Air Safety List, the civil aviation authorities of both Belarus and the Dominican Republic were put under heightened scrutiny because of signs of a decrease in safety oversight, the statement said. In total, 120 airlines are now banned from EU skies.
Uzbekistan and the World Bank have signed loan agreements worth $300mn to finance projects in Uzbekistan aimed at im- proving municipal services and urban infrastructure along with developing entrepreneurship in the Fergana Valley, UzDaily news agency reported April 14.
The agreements were signed during Uzbek Finance Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov’s meeting with World Bank vice president for Europe and Central Asia, Cyril Muller.
The Uzbek government previously said it hoped to allocate around $435mn for its affordable housing programme. The World Bank’s funding will likely indirectly support the housing programme thanks to infrastructure projects.
