First hydropower unit of Tajikistan’s Rogun project to launch in November
Serbia and Bulgaria to sign deal to improve rail traffic flows
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with Pietro Salini, chief executive officer of the Italian construction conglomerate Salini Impregilo which won a $3.9bn contract for the construction of
the Rogun hydropower project on Tajikistan’s Vakhsh River, the presidential press service said on January 31. After the meeting, Salini told reporters that the first generating unit of the Rogun hydropower plant would according to plans be launched on 16 November this year.
Rogun is to be a 3,600MW hydropower investment, complete with the world's tallest dam. The project is meant to end Tajikistan's winter energy shortages as well as support the country's objective to become a regional energy exporter via the CASA-1000 project. Tajikistan in September raised $500mn from its inaugural international bond priced at 7.125% for a 10-year term - the proceeds from the bond are aimed at the Rogun project.
Representatives of the Serbian and Bulgarian transport ministries agreed to sign an agreement to improve rail traffic flows during a meeting on January 29, Serbia’s Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure said in a statement.
A part of the new agreement between Serbia and Bulgaria on rail transportation the Dimitrovgrad-Dragoman joint rail border crossing will be established. This will decrease waiting times for passengers and goods, which have recently increased to eight to nine hours.
“Meetings of operational teams related to the signing of the new railway agreement have started today. However, when it comes to road traffic, the two border crossings will stay as Serbia is not an EU member,” Serbia’s Minister of Construction, Transport and In- frastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said at the meeting in Sofia.
Slovenia's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) filling station for trucks was opened in the town of Sezana on the border with Italy on January 29, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported.
The LNG station is part of the €2.5bn SiLNGT project, 50% co- financed by the EU. It aims at developing LNG availability and use in Slovenia and Croatia and plans to achieve this through the deployment of three LNG refuelling stations in both countries. The project coordinator is Slovenian company Butan Plin.
