on energy sector resilience in Asia and the Paci c.
“ e energy sector is a key driver of growth and human development, especially during recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic,” said ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa. “We are pleased to renew our agreement with IEA, which builds on our successful collaboration to date, and we look forward to advancing our shared objective of achieving a more sustainable and resilient energy future in Asia and the Paci c.”

A World Bank spokesperson said: “We
don’t have access to this information at this stage. e tender is under procurement and a winning bidder will be announced once the tender process is concluded. Pre-feasibility analysis of the OSOWOG concept will then commence.”
SUPPLY
India’s power supply deficit widens to 0.5% in Q2
India’s power supply de cit widened to 0.5% in the second quarter of 2020 (Q2 2020),
up from 0.4% in the same period last year, according to the data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
e data showed that between April and June 2020, about 291.8bn kWh of power was supplied against a demand of 293.29bn kWh, representing a de cit of 1.484bn kWh or 0.5%. In the same period last year, 346.21bn kWh
of electricity was supplied against a demand
of 347.77bn kWh, a shortfall of 1.563bn kWh MUs over the targeted energy requirement.
e southern and western regions were the only regions with no supply and peak supply de cit during the quarter.
e western region, which includes Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Goa, was able to supply all of the 86.73bn kWh of power demanded. It was also able to meet its peak demand of 51.15bn kWh entirely.
Under the 3-year agreement, the two organizations will share knowledge and best practice in energy sector data and analysis, on-the-ground engagement, capacity building, technology, and innovation, among other areas. is will help to overcome critical knowledge and experience gaps blocking the development of sustainable energy systems
in ADB’s developing member countries and enhance IEA’s data collection and capacity building e orts in Asia and the Paci c.
ADB rst signed a 3-year MOU with
IEA in March 2017 to facilitate knowledge and analytical work to advance clean energy development in ADB’s developing member countries. As part of this, ADB worked with IEA to study power system exibility in India to integrate more solar and wind energy in the grids.
e renewal agreement was signed on the occasion of IEA’s Clean Energy Transitions Summit, where Mr. Asakawa gave a speech at the plenary session to an audience of over 50 energy ministers and energy sector leaders. Last month, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol delivered the keynote address at ADB’s 15th Asia Clean Energy Forum 2020. IEA is
Around 30 rms, including French government-owned power utility Electricite de France SA (EDF) and consulting rms such as McKinsey and Co., Boston Consulting Group (BCG), AT Kearney, Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), have separately evinced interest in helping India rm up its ambitious global electricity grid plan.
India’ global grid plans have gained traction in the backdrop of China’s attempt to co-opt countries into its ambitious One Belt One Road initiative that seeks to invest billions of dollars in infrastructure projects including railways, ports and power grids across Asia, Africa and Europe.
e who’s who of consulting and electricity sector are interested in participating in a request for proposal (RFP) called by India’s ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) to develop a long-term roadmap
for the ‘One Sun One World One Grid’ (OSOWOG), that comprises a technical and nancial proposal. e ambitious task has been taken up under the technical assistance
