Local media reports have lately mentioned how one Russian company, Sysoevsky LLC, was looking to create a joint livestock company with Iran in the oblast. The company could meet a significant amount of Iran’s red meat demand if it was able to scale up exports.
Saratov’s cereals and other agricultural production segments could also stand to benefit from the EEU free trade agreement with Iran.
The oblast’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Strelnikov lately welcomed Iranian trade delegations for discussions on boosting trade.
However, he added: “For us today, one of the most serious issues is the problem of mutual settlement, taking into account the sanctions pressure [from the US on trading with Iran].”
Saratov, he said, had developed relations with Iranian banks to enable trade and minimize the risk of incurring US sanctions.
