The cost of fixed assets rose by 28.8%, to UAH21.2bn, in particular leased assets by 28.6%, to UAH20.46bn. UIA’s total liabilities at the end of last year amounted to UAH954.4mn.
The Ministry of Infrastructure plans to create four more airport hubs in various regional centers, Minister Volodymyr Omelyan announced at the Ukrainian Ports Forum 2018 in Odesa. "Apart from Boryspil airport, we need four more regional hubs – in Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro,” he said, according to Ukrinform.
Kyiv’s second airport increases passenger flow. Kyiv’s Zuliany international airport served 155,500 passengers in January 2018, which is 43.8% more y/y. 149,600 of them were on international flights and 5,900 on domestic ones. The number of flights in January 2018 totalled 1,876 (departures and arrivals), 19.3% more y/y, 1,552 being international flights and 324 domestic flights. The most popular international routes were Dubai (the UAE), Minsk (Belarus), Ankara (Turkey), Budapest (Hungary), Warsaw (Poland), Memmingen (Germany), Rome (Italy) and domestic flights – Odesa, Zaporizhia and Lviv.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) opens direct flights to India . On 1 May UIA launched direct flights from Kyiv to Delhi, the company's press service has told Ukrinform. The new long-distance flights will be three times a week and increase from 7 June to four. The minimum cost of a one-way ticket from Kyiv to Delhi, including all taxes and fees, starts from UAH6,890.
Odesa airport prioritized for reconstruction . Minister Omelyan has already announced that the reconstruction of Odesa airport will be completed in 2019. It will include construction of a new runway that can accept heavier aircraft, including the Boeing-767, which, in turn, can double passenger traffic, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
Ryanair discusses new routes with 5 other Ukrainian airports . Irish low-cost airline Ryanair is holding talks with five Ukrainian cities about opening new flights, its CEO Michael O'Leary said in an interview with the Ukrainian Travel Gazette, Ukrinform reports. According to O'Leary, due to low airline prices resulting from the appearance of Ryanair in Ukraine, passengers will save about 100mn euros on travel, and the opening of flights would create up to 600 new jobs in local affiliated enterprises, including 410 in Kyiv and 190 in Lviv.
Kharkiv International Airport getting busier . The volume of passengers using it in the first four months of 2018 was 20% more than a year ago and totalled 236,900. In April, Wizz Air low cost airline returned to the airport, and Ukrainian International Airlines also began a flight between Kharkiv and Milan.
Government approves strategy to stimulate aircraft construction revival
until 2022.It is aimed, according to Ukrinform, to promote “the stable development of the aircraft industry and the creation of conditions for the formation in 2022 of cost-effective and high-tech production of aviation equipment to ensure a gradual growth of production and a sale of new competitive models of serial, modernized passenger and transport aircraft, helicopters, small and unmanned aircraft carriers.”
