China sets up CEE transport research centre in Bulgaria
Eleven Chinese and Bulgarian organisations have set up a China- Central and East Europe (CEE) research centre for transportation infrastructure construction and investment cooperation, the University of Transport in Sofia said in a statement on November 23.
The centre in Bulgaria should act as think tank providing consultancy services on transportation infrastructure projects in the CEE countries.
In September, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) presented a report on China’s Belt and
Road Initiative, which has been assessed as having the potential to help transform the Western Balkans countries by presenting
a range of opportunities including trade deals, energy cooperation and financing agreements.
The number of passengers carried by the Lithuanian transport industry grew 3.1% y/y in the third quarter, improving on the annual drop of 2.9% in the second quarter, data released by Statistics Lithuania showed on November 21.
The growth owed to the 3.2% y/y expansion in the number of passengers carried in the road segment and the same growth ratio in the buses segment, which is counted separately from road transport.
The number of passengers carried by trolley buses, by means of inland waterway transport, as well as airlines, also grew in the third quarter.
The only segment to see an annual decline was sea transport, which saw passenger numbers fall 6.7% y/y.
