The Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD) anticipates that Turkey's 2021 crude steel production will reach an all-time high of more than 39mn tonnes.
Turkey, Europe's second-largest steel producer, achieved 35.8mn tonnes in 2020 amid COVID-19 pandemic impacts. TCUD said the target was achievable given expected 2021 growth in Turkish steel consumption and expanded export volumes driven by strong global demand linked to the easing of the coronavirus crisis.
Turkish crude steel output increased by 17.9% y/y in June to 3.4mn tonnes, according to World Steel Association data. May’s output was 3.2mn tonnes.
Output for H1 was 19.7mn tonnes, 20.2% up y/y.
The Turkish Steel Exporters' Union is targeting more than 23mn tonnes of exports in 2021. 2020 saw exports at around 20.5mn tonnes. Revenue generated from the expected exports is seen as reaching $17.5bn, higher by 40% y/y.

In January, duties for Habas were set at 4.80%, for Erdemir at 5.40%, for Agir Haddecilik and Borcelik at 5.90%, and for Colakoglu and all other companies at 7.60%.
