Speaking at a Moscow education conference on May 20, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he thinks Tesla is “close to establishing a presence in Russia.” Since the announcement, the leaders from the Kaluga, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Orel, and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as from the Udmurt Republic, have begun making pitches on social media to be the location of a new Tesla factory. Musk attended the conference at the invitation of Putin’s Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov.
