The offer was attractive “in the context
of recent falls in electricity prices as well
as Infigen’s relatively high debt servicing costs and its limited track-record in paying distributions,” UAC said. Credit Suisse is acting as financial adviser for UAC.
Vestas wins 41 MW order in China
Vestas has received an order for a project in China that includes the supply of 17 V120- 2.2 MW wind turbines with 141m towers delivered in 2.4 MW Power Optimised Mode, as well as a 5-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, with commissioning planned for the same quarter.
The project and customer are undisclosed.

Consortium formed for
offshore wind power
project in Japan
Sumitomo Corporation, INPEX Corporation, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX), JR-EAST Energy Development, Kato Construction, Narita Construction, TEPCO Renewable Powerand Venti Japan have formed a consortium to take on an offshore wind power project near the cities of Noshiro, Mitane and Oga in Akita Prefecture, for which a public tender is scheduled.
The government’s Basic Energy Plan sets out an objective for 2030 of achieving a power generation mix in which 22%-24% of power is provided through renewable energies, making the consideration/planning of offshore wind power generation, a power source with enormous potential, an urgent issue.
In accordance with the “Offshore Renewable Energy Act” (Note), the national government is presently designating areas (promotion areas) for which offshore wind power producers will be selected by public tender.
The Sea Area offers a very suitable natural environment, with its favourable wind conditions and relatively shallow waters, so it appears likely to be designated a promotion area.
Sumitomo Corporation has since 2018 been conducting environmental impact assessments, seabed surveys, wind condition studies and other research with the understanding of local governments and the
cooperation of local fishermen. Sumitomo, which has a long track
record of developing/operating wind power stations both inside and outside Japan,
Venti, Kato Construction, JED and Narita Construction, which are all locally engaged
in the wind power generation business in Akita Prefecture, TEPCO RP, which has considerable experience and achievements in validating and operating the Choshi Offshore Wind Farm, Japan’s largest offshore wind farm, and which has heretofore demonstrated a full range of technical capabilities in planning, building, operating and maintaining hydroelectric power stations and other
power plants, and INPEX and JAPEX, which have long been an integral part of the local petroleum and natural gas scene in Akita Prefecture, will be coordinating on these preparations.

Indonesia borrows from ADB to fund geothermal p
INDONESIA is raising its geothermal power generation capacity under a $300mn loan granted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the state-owned PT Geo Dipa Energi (GDE).
The funding, announced on May 28, will help GDE to increase its installed geothermal power generating capacity by 110MW in
Java, Indonesia’s largest electricity grid and
a challenging market for the development of renewable energy. ADB will also manage a $35mn loan for the project from the Clean Technology Fund in addition to the $300mn loan.
The project is aligned with a number
of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and to combat climate change and its impact. It will support the construction and commissioning of two geothermal plants of 55MW each at Dieng in Central Java and Patuha in West Java by GDE, which is focused on geothermal exploration, development
and power generation. It will boost GDE’s capacity to plan and execute projects and undertake government-supported drilling, which aims to attract much-needed private sector investment to develop new geothermal areas. In addition, GDE will provide direct assistance to nearby communities, including women and other vulnerable groups, and help improve livelihoods.
GDE president-director Riki Ibrahim
says the project is recognised as a national strategic project by the government. It will provide environmentally-friendly base-load electricity to the Java-Bali electricity grid, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 700,000 tonnes per year. “The project will build critical geothermal experience in Indonesia and contribute to the government’s efforts to attract private sector investment in the sector.
