Gazprom may have to wait until mid-winter for Nord Stream 2 to be commissioned. Germany's energy regulator said Monday said it has until January 8 to complete a certification of the trans-Baltic pipeline, Reuters reports from Frankfurt. The regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur, must ensure that Nord Stream complies with European Union rules requiring pipeline owners to be separate from gas suppliers when it reaches German waters. After the regulator completes its inspection, it will send a draft decision to the European Commission.
Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state oil and gas company, plans to end 2021 with a net profit, company CEO Yuriy Vitrenko tells Interfax-Ukraine. “We are doing everything to show that, in the results of this year, Naftogaz is no longer a loss-making company and is financially stable,” he said Friday on the sidelines of the YES Brainstorming 2021 forum in Kyiv. Two big negatives loom over the company, he said: declining income from Russian gas transit to the EU, and regional gas companies that do not pay for gas received.
Ukraine is “90% ready” for the heating season, with more than 18 billion cubic meters pumped in gas storage reservoirs, Shmyhal said that as the press conference. Stocks of coal, a major source of heat and power, are about half of the Ministry of Energy’s mid-September target of 1.75 million tons. Last winter, coal shortages prompted emergency imports.
Hydrogen energy has taken one of the important places in the energy partnership between Ukraine and Germany (gov.ua). Plans to create a hydrogen market in Ukraine and were discussed during a German-Ukrainian meeting of the Working Group on Hydrogen, as well as a discussion on "Ukraine: Prospects for Green Hydrogen Exports to Germany and the EU." The State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy of Germany, Andreas Feicht, stressed that Germany plans to look for reliable international partners and called on Ukraine to take advantage of its competitive advantages: the great potential of "green" energy and a wide pipeline network to meet high industrial demand.
Ukrtransgaz pumps over 18 bcm of gas into underground storage facilities. About 4bn cubic meters are currently stored in underground gas storage facilities in the “customs warehouse” mode. Ukrtransgaz expects that more than 19bn cubic meters of natural gas will be pumped into Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities before the heating season starts.
