Ukraine will support Mikhail Saakashvili who was recently detained in Georgia on September 30. The Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, said that Saakashvili had been detained by law enforcement officers and had already been taken to a penitentiary. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced that it will support the ex-President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, as he is a Ukrainian citizen, said Dmytro Kuleba speaking with Dom TV channel.
The Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada initiated the process of removing Rada Speaker Dmytro Razumkov from his position, Razumkov and faction leader David Arahamiya stated separately on September 30. Signature sheets, by which the MPs will register their support for his dismissal, would be available on September 30, Razumkov stated on Facebook. The issue of Razumkov’s dismissal from the position is likely to feature in the faction’s meeting in Truskavets on October 1-2. Razumkov was not invited to it. The speaker’s political ambitions and independence from president Volodymyr Zelenskiy have been a known issue since the beginning of the year. Pravda.com.ua reported in February that Zelenskiy would prefer to have vice speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk in the position instead. Zelenskiy stated on September 30 that he is not behind the revolt. However, Razumkov has stated that Arahamiya was just doing his job.

Ukraine plans to procure 24 more Turkish Bayraktar TB2 attack drones over the next two years, Lieutenant-General Valeriy Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s new Armed Forces Commander in Chief, tells Azerbaijan’s Report news agency. Currently Ukraine’s Air Force and Navy have a total of 12 of the drones. Separately, Defense Minister Andriy Taran met last week with Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar Makina, and discussed production of the drones in Ukraine under license.
Ukraine’s parliament voted on a bill #5599 “On the prevention of threats to national security related to the excessive influence of oligarchs.” The bill defines the notion of an oligarch (a person who has significant economic and political weight in society) and imposes some limits on their activity, as well as forces top officials to declare any contracts with oligarchs. As with the first draft of the bill, the final draft defines an oligarch as a person who meets at least three of four criteria: 1) participates in political life; 2) has sufficient influence on media; 3) controls a company which is a natural monopoly or has a dominant position on any Ukrainian market; 4) owns assets for a total value that exceeds 1mn of 'subsistence minimums' (about $82mn as of now).
